Goldfarb LibraryBrandeis University | Waltham, MA

designLAB engaged in a conceptual analysis for Brandeis University’s Goldfarb and Farber library, which sought to transform the library’s mid-century buildings into innovative and state-of-the-art learning environments. The programming effort focused on re-imagining library services, while factoring in the various learning typologies necessary to support the needs and expectations of 21st century students.

Through a careful analysis that balanced public and private realms, the existing buildings were able to accommodate a variety of needs. Our analysis called for quiet and collaborative spaces, small groups and large commons, and flexible and technology-rich study rooms. This ensured that the varied needs of the students were met, while maintaining enough flexibility to adapt as their needs changed.
