Whitin ObservatoryWellesley College

Built at the turn of the century on a hill in the Hunnewell Arboretum, Whitin Observatory is the historic home of the Wellesley College Astronomy Department. In 2012, the existing building was fully renovated and expanded to integrate the Geosciences. A new multi-discipline lab was introduced as a shared amenity for exploring both earth and sky. A light-filled gallery connects a modest 2,000 SF addition to the existing building, providing views into the restored library, research project room and new lab as well as outward to the lush surroundings.
